Makassar, August 23, 2023 – The Sharia Banking Department of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Alauddin Makassar played an active role in the international seminar organized by KSEI FORKEIS UINAM. The seminar, themed "Strengthening the Digital Ecosystem and Halal Value Chain to Realize Indonesia as the Center of the World Islamic Economy," was held at the Aula of the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business (FEBI) UIN Alauddin Makassar.
The seminar opened with welcome speeches from Prof. H. Hamdan Juhannis, M.A, Ph.D., Rector of UIN Alauddin Makassar, and Prof. H. Abustani Ilyas M.Ag, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business. In his remarks, Prof. Hamdan Juhannis stated, "Indonesia has great potential to become the center of the world Islamic economy. Collaboration and innovation in the digital ecosystem and halal value chain are key to achieving this goal."
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. H. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, B.B.A., M.B.A., Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia. In his presentation, Dr. Sandiaga Uno emphasized the importance of digitalization and strengthening the halal value chain in advancing the Islamic economy in Indonesia. "By leveraging digital technology and strengthening the halal sector, we can drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth," he said.
The seminar also featured other prominent speakers, including:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Romzie Rosman, Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation, Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia, who discussed innovations in Islamic banking.
- Dr. Amiruddin K., M.E.I., Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business, who highlighted the role of education in strengthening the sharia economic ecosystem.
- Dr. Satrio Adhitomo, S.IP, MM, MPA, Ph.D., Senior Policy Analyst, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, who discussed government policies supporting the sharia economy.
- Riksa Prakoso, Chief Human Capital Officer of Bank Muamalat Indonesia, who discussed the role of the banking industry in the digital and halal ecosystem.
The seminar was moderated by a lecturer from the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business UIN Alauddin Makassar, ensuring a smooth and interactive discussion.
The Head of the Sharia Banking Department at UIN Alauddin Makassar, Ismawati, S.E, M.Si., expressed her appreciation for the seminar. "We fully support this event as it provides new insights and knowledge for students and lecturers about the importance of digitalization and the halal value chain in developing the sharia economy," she said.
Participants of the seminar, consisting of students, academics, and industry practitioners, were very enthusiastic about each session presented by the speakers. This seminar is expected to make a tangible contribution to efforts to make Indonesia the center of the world Islamic economy through strengthening the digital ecosystem and halal value chain.
